Website Privacy Policy
This Website Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Insomnia Technologies LLC ("Insomnia," "we," "us," or "our") handles information collected about visitors to the Offline Hiker website (the "Site"). Insomnia Technologies LLC operates and hosts the Site. This Policy applies only to your activity on the Site itself.
The Offline Hiker mobile application is a separate product, published and operated by its own developer. Any information the application collects on your device, transmits from your device, or stores about your use of the application is governed by the App Privacy Policy, not by this Policy. If you have questions about how the application handles your information, please refer to the App Privacy Policy.
By accessing or browsing the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this Policy. If you do not agree with how information is handled as described here, please discontinue use of the Site.
What This Policy Covers
This Policy describes the limited information automatically collected when you visit, browse, or interact with the Site. The Site does not maintain user accounts, registration systems, login flows, payment processing, or any feature that requires you to submit personal information. There are no forms to complete, no signups, and no purchases handled on the Site. The Site's primary purpose is to provide information about the Offline Hiker application and to direct interested visitors to authorized download channels.
Information We Collect
When you visit the Site, our infrastructure automatically receives and may log a limited set of technical information that is standard to operating any modern website. The information collected may include:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Approximate geographic location derived from your IP address, typically at the country, region, or city level
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device type
- Referring URL (the page or source that linked you to the Site)
- Pages or resources requested on the Site
- Date and time of each request
- HTTP request headers sent by your browser, including user-agent string and language preferences
- General request metadata used for routing, performance, and security
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, payment information, government identifiers, biometric data, precise device location, or any other directly identifying personal information through the Site. We do not ask you to create an account, log in, or submit personal information of any kind in order to use the Site.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Site uses only essential, strictly necessary cookies and equivalent technical identifiers required to deliver the Site to you securely and reliably. These cookies are set automatically by our security, routing, and content delivery infrastructure for purposes such as protecting the Site against automated abuse, distributing traffic across servers, maintaining a stable connection during your visit, and confirming that incoming requests are legitimate.
We do not place advertising cookies, marketing cookies, behavioral profiling cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or third-party analytics trackers that follow you across other websites. We do not use cookies for advertising, remarketing, or audience-building purposes.
Because the cookies described above are strictly necessary for the Site to function, blocking them through your browser settings may affect your ability to load or use the Site. You can manage cookies through your browser's privacy settings at any time.
How We Use the Information We Collect
The technical information described above is used only for the limited purposes of operating, securing, and maintaining the Site. Specifically, this information is used to:
- Deliver the Site's content to your browser
- Detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to security threats, abusive traffic, denial-of-service attempts, automated scraping, and unauthorized access
- Maintain the reliability, availability, and performance of the Site
- Diagnose technical errors, outages, and configuration issues
- Understand high-level traffic patterns, such as total visits over time, for capacity planning and operational decisions
- Comply with our legal obligations and respond to lawful requests where required
We do not use the information collected through the Site to build advertising profiles, track you across other websites or services, sell your data to brokers or marketers, or attempt to identify you personally beyond what is strictly necessary for the operational and security purposes described above.
How We Protect Your Information
Because the Site does not maintain accounts, payments, or personal submissions, our approach to protecting visitor information centers on collecting as little as possible in the first place. The less data exists, the less there is to expose.
The protections that apply to information collected through the Site include:
- Encryption of all traffic in transit using HTTPS (Transport Layer Security), so that information sent between your browser and the Site cannot be read in transit
- Automated edge-level protection against denial-of-service attacks, abusive bots, and scrapers
- Network-level filtering and rate limiting that deflects malicious traffic before it reaches the Site
- Origin servers operated on infrastructure we control directly, rather than shared hosting environments
- Strict limits on what information is collected, how long it is retained, and what it is used for
We do not engage in cross-site tracking, behavioral profiling, advertising-driven data collection, or any other practice that would expand the data footprint beyond what the Site actually needs to function.
No internet-connected system can be guaranteed to be completely secure against every possible threat. We take any incident affecting visitor data seriously and will respond as promptly as we are able.
Data Retention
Technical information collected by the Site is retained only for as long as needed to fulfill the operational and security purposes described in this Policy. Routine request logs are kept for a limited window, generally on the order of days to weeks, and are then deleted or aggregated into anonymous statistics that no longer identify individual visitors.
Records that must be retained longer for security investigation, incident response, fraud prevention, or legal compliance are preserved only for the period required for that specific purpose and are then deleted. We do not maintain long-term archives of individual visitor activity on the Site.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade information collected through the Site to any party, under any circumstances.
We do not share information collected through the Site with advertisers, marketing networks, data brokers, or unaffiliated parties for their own use.
The only situations in which technical information collected by the Site may be disclosed outside our direct control are:
- When required by valid legal process, such as a subpoena, court order, or lawful government request that we are legally obligated to comply with
- When necessary to investigate or respond to suspected fraud, abuse, security incidents, or activities that violate applicable law or threaten the integrity of our systems or visitors
- In the event of a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of assets, in which case any information transferred would remain subject to the protections described in this Policy
Outside of these narrow circumstances, information collected through the Site stays with Insomnia Technologies LLC and is used solely for the operational and security purposes described above.
Third-Party Links and the App Store
The Site contains links to third-party services, most notably the Apple App Store, where you can download the Offline Hiker application. When you click a link that takes you off the Site, you leave our control and enter a service operated by another party with its own privacy practices.
For example, when you visit the App Store, Apple may collect information about you in accordance with its own privacy policy, which is independent of this one. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the privacy practices, content, or activities of third-party services you reach through links on the Site. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to use.
Relationship to the Offline Hiker Application
The Offline Hiker mobile application is a separate product from the Site. It is published and operated by its own developer, not by Insomnia Technologies LLC. Information that the application collects on your device, transmits from your device, or stores about your use of the application, including any location data, navigation history, saved waypoints, or other in-app information, is governed by the App Privacy Policy and is the responsibility of the application's developer.
Insomnia Technologies LLC operates the Site only. Insomnia Technologies LLC does not control the application, does not receive personal data from the application, and is not responsible for the application's data practices. If you have questions about how the application handles your information, please refer to the App Privacy Policy or contact the application's developer directly.
Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of thirteen (13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the Site does not provide any means for visitors to submit personal information, the practical opportunity to collect children's data through the Site is extremely limited.
If you believe that information about a child has nonetheless been collected through the Site in any form, please contact us at [email protected] so that we may investigate and delete any such information.
Visitors From Outside the United States
The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you should be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed within the United States or in other locations where our infrastructure operates. The data protection laws of these locations may differ from those of your home country.
By using the Site, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations and to processing in accordance with this Policy.
Your Choices and Controls
Although the Site collects only the minimal technical information described above, you retain several practical options to further control your visit:
- You may disable or block cookies through your browser settings, though doing so may interfere with the Site's ability to function properly
- You may use a virtual private network (VPN), privacy-focused browser, or anonymity service to alter or obscure your network-level information
- You may use browser extensions that block trackers; the Site does not rely on third-party trackers, so these extensions should not interfere with its normal operation
- You may choose not to visit the Site
We honor technical privacy signals such as Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track headers where doing so is technically practicable, even when not strictly required by law.
California Residents
If you are a resident of California, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA"), the California Privacy Rights Act ("CPRA"), and related California privacy laws. These rights include:
- The right to know what categories of personal information have been collected about you in the past twelve (12) months and the purposes for which it was collected
- The right to request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain legal exceptions
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights
We do not sell personal information collected through the Site to any party, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information about California residents through the Site.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request.
European Union and United Kingdom Residents
If you access the Site from the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") or equivalent local laws. These may include:
- The right of access to personal data we hold about you
- The right to rectification of inaccurate data
- The right to erasure of your data under certain conditions
- The right to restrict or object to processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
The legal basis for our processing of the technical information described in this Policy is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the Site, balanced against the limited and non-sensitive nature of the data involved. We do not use this information for any purpose beyond what is strictly necessary to deliver and protect the Site.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected].
Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our infrastructure, the services available on the Site, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will post the revised Policy on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after the revised Policy becomes effective indicates your acceptance of the updated terms.
We encourage you to review this Policy periodically so that you remain aware of how information is handled when you visit.

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Policy, please contact us by email at [email protected].
We will respond to inquiries within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.
